Jesus not only calls people to Him, but also forms them and sends them out in His service.
The role of Greeting and Ushering is vital to the warm and friendly feeling our Church community offers both parishioners and visitors. We are the first ones people see when they arrive at St. Max, plus we remain highly visible throughout the Liturgy. It is our desire to make those attending Mass feel welcome, loved and treasured. Because a warm and welcoming presence is vital to our success, our Ministry is especially open to Singles, Couples and Families greeting together.
In addition to greeting people as they arrive, we wish them God’s love as they leave. Other typical duties involve helping to find seats, taking up the collection, assisting with the communion flow and passing out bulletins. In addition, there are several other functions our Ministers may be responsible for. These include: occasional docent activities for visitors, adjusting the lights and thermostats, helping the sacristans in setting up the Eucharist, seeking volunteers to carry the processional Cross and bring up the Gifts, tidying up after each Mass, and being alert and prepared for any Emergency. CPR and First Aid training is conducted annually as well as an annual spiritual enrichment retreat.
Greeters and Ushers arrive 20 minutes before their assigned Mass and work every other weekend with a team leader trained and appointed for each mass. Each Mass typically needs 4 to 5 ministers. When considering this Ministry you will join others who have a great love for God’s people.
