The Lector is a lover of the Word who truly wants to communicate the Good News to the community. The special gifts and skills of the Lector have to do with drawing everyone into the scriptures. The direct preparation for this is thorough familiarity with the reading, a sense of pace, and an expressive proclamation of the Word. Training is provided and your ongoing formation is anticipated. At every celebration of the Mass God speaks to us through the proclamation of the Word. Those who feel called to proclaim God’s Word to the gathered assembly are appointed as Lectors in the community. Training as a lector consists of learning to read from Sacred Scripture in a way that will inspire all who hear the text. Prayerful reflection on the readings several days before Sunday Mass is essential to your ministry.
