“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek; and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” -Matthew 7:7-8
Mission
As a result of the economic downturns some members of the community, even those with long years of service, find themselves suddenly out of work or in career transition. For many, it is a traumatic experience, which some compare to the death of a loved one, filled with uncertainty, self-doubt, misgivings and dramatically altered life styles. The Conejo Valley has not been immune to these changes, nor has the St. Maximilian Community. In recognition of the need to reach out and provide support to our community, the Employment Ministry was formed to give assistance, support and hope to those affected by providing:
- Spiritual and moral support.
- Resources, advice and assistance in the elements of a successful career transition plan, including career search organization, resume writing, interviewing tips and the utilization of relevant resources.
- Networking opportunities as a forum for sharing ideas and experiences among those affected by the sluggish economy.
Activities
The Employment Ministry furthers its mission by:
- Providing links to valuable resource materials, including its own Career Transition Guide.
- Offering workshops by dedicated volunteers from the business community inside and outside the Parish to those experiencing unemployment, underemployment and other career transitions in areas including:
- Tips on using the Internet and job sites.
- Creating effective resumes and cover letters.
- Preparing for interviews.
- Scheduling “mixers” and other networking functions to facilitate sharing of leads, resources and job search suggestions.
- Offering spiritual and moral support, hope and encouragement.
